UICC ISO Device error
A „UICC ISO Device“ is a generic device driver in Windows that represents the Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC), which is the physical or embedded SIM card used in modern mobile devices. This device driver can sometimes cause issues with smart card login, especially when both a physical SIM/eSIM and a separate smart card reader are present. The problem often occurs when Windows automatically selects the wrong device for login, and the solution is to disable the driver in Device Manager, say users on Reddit and Lenovo.
What it is
- UICC: The Universal Integrated Circuit Card is the physical smart card (or embedded version, eSIM) that stores your subscriber identity and cryptographic keys to access a mobile network.
- ISO Device: The „ISO“ part refers to the ISO/IEC 7816 standard for smart cards, which defines the communication protocols between the card and the reader.
- Function: The „UICC ISO Device“ driver in Windows helps the operating system recognize and communicate with the UICC, typically as a smart card.
Common issue
- Login conflict: A conflict can occur if a computer has both a WWAN (mobile) card with an integrated UICC and a separate physical smart card reader for other uses, explains Dell.
- Automatic selection: Windows may automatically select the UICC as the smart card for login, causing the wrong device to be chosen and the login attempt to fail on the first try, according to Dell.
How to fix it
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Software devices.
- Right-click Uicc Iso Device and select Disable device.
